Add sweetener, lemon, or other ingredients as desired. The quantity of lemon grass you use will depend on the purpose. Do not be afraid to be adventurous.
Lemongrass (citronella) is commonly called Fever-grass in Cameroon. As a child, my mother would use lemongrass for almost everything, particularly when I had a fever. She would take a good quantity, place it in a clay pot, and broil for about five minutes. She would place a thick blanket over me and slide the pot under the blanket, and ask that I hold my head over the pot at a safe distance. She would occasionally open the blanket to stir the pot. When she noticed I had sweetened enough or the liquid was no longer hot, she would remove the blanket, pour a cup of the liquid and give me to drink. She repeated the process until the fever reduced. As I got old, I would follow the process when I had a fever. Fresh fever-grass became a staple. I made sure I grew it whenever I could, boiling it and drinking it as tea. In the US, my sister boils after cooking African food rich in species. It leaves the house with a wonderful scent instead of food species. Fever-grass has a citrus flavor and is believed to help reduce fever, relieve bloating, lower cholesterol, and more.
